I like “Glove ‘n Care Hand Cream” as a base layer. It is what they use at hospitals to wear under gloves. Forms a great slick barrier. It is water soluble so you do have to reapply some on long rides. I like Enzo’s Buttonhole for the chamois and top layer. It feels really good. And finally, if you are having long sweaty days in the saddle, wash up with a regular strength benzoyl peroxide wash. The wash will also help with those uncomfortable crotchal nodules that can develop. That is my “Texas Sweat and Oklahoma Dirt” formula.

Though it’s still not clear for me, how do you travel with padded shorts: if you wear them without underwear, then you need to wash them everyday – don’t you? Sure I can take a spare ones, but not more. For now, if I go for a longer rides (more than two days), I wear underwear under padded shorts, it’s not as comfortable, but so far it wasn’t a problem (I don’t use any cream) and I don’t need to do the washing that often.. still learning about touring!

In a real bad pinch, I’ve used 2nd skin band aids over saddle sores when stopping riding isn’t an option. Works for about 150km til it rubs off.
