Who will Joe set his sights on this time?
Why do we love TV serial killers so much? That's a question probably best left unanswered, but one of the current beneficiaries of our troubling obsession is You on Netflix and its massively problematic protagonist, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). Every season on Netflix's You, Joe claims that he's trying to overcome his darker side, but so far, his obsessive, murderous ways have won out every time. Whether he's in New York City, Los Angeles, Madre Linda, or London, Joe cannot be anyone other than himself — and viewers have a front-row seat to all his misdeeds.
When the fourth season wrapped in March 2023, fans were immediately asking, "Will there be a You Season 5?" The good news is that yes, there will be — although it will be the show's last season. Here, we discuss the latest news on You Season 5, when you can expect the season to finally drop, and what we can expect to happen as the series approaches its climax.
More on Netflix:
Penn Badgley, You
NetflixWith its latest teaser for the final season of You, Netflix has finally revealed when we'll be able to watch the rest of Joe's murderous journey: All episodes of Season 5 of You drop on April 24. Check out the new teaser below.
When Netflix announced that You was renewed for a fifth and final season, the streamer said it would come in 2024. But most of Hollywood was at a standstill for months in 2023 as writers and actors went on strike for fair wages, and this final season was delayed into 2025. But now the end is in sight, with You Season 5 premiering on April 24.
Although fans may have to wait a while to watch You Season 5, Netflix's global fan event Tudum 2023 allowed them to get a small taste. As characters from past seasons flash on the screen, Badgley talks to the camera, saying, "We all know there are many loose ends from Joe's past. The question is: Who are you?"

Joe has been around the world and found himself back where it all started: New York. At the end of Season 4, Joe fully embraces his dark side (despite spending much of the season trying to fight it). He admits to his most recent love interest, Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), that he's a killer. As with Love, he's found the right woman to fall for. Kate has a darkness of her own, so she takes this news in stride. She also has massive family wealth, which is how she's able to help Joe return to New York and spin his past (remember, he's supposed to be dead) into press gold.
And it seems that returning to New York isn't the only way Joe is reconnecting with his past. He'll also be returning to the bookstore business, where he'll connect with a playwright (played by Madeline Brewer) who works for him. Sounds like Season 1 all over again.
The first season of the series was based on Caroline Kepnes' book You; the second and third seasons were loosely based on her sequel Hidden Bodies. The third book in the series is called You Love Me, but the TV series does not follow it (in either the third or fourth seasons), so it's unlikely that we can draw any conclusions from its storyline, which is set in the Pacific Northwest and centered on a love interest named Mary Kay DiMarco.
Penn Badgley will of course return to wrap up the story of Joe Goldberg. Charlotte Ritchie is also expected to reprise her role as Kate, Joe's new wife.
Baby Reindeer star Nava Mau, who made history as the first transgender performer to be nominated for the Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie a year ago, will play Detective Marquez in a guest starring role. It's likely that Marquez will be investigating Joe in some capacity.
Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid's Tale) has joined the show in a series regular role, per Deadline. She'll play Bronte, "an enigmatic and free-spirited playwright" who forms a connection with Joe when she comes to work at his bookstore, fueling his "nostalgia for his former self, causing him to question everything his life has become."
It also seems like we'll be spending more time with Joe's rich new in-laws, the Lockwood family. According to Variety, Anna Camp will play dual roles as Joe's twin sisters-in-law, Raegan and Maddie Lockwood. Raegan is described as the Lockwood Corp's "cutthroat CFO," while Maddie is a "thrice-divorced socialite" who's secretly a "master manipulator."
Griffin Matthews will play Teddy Lockwood, Joe's brother-in-law. Per Variety, Teddy "brings authenticity and empathy to a family for whom such things are a foreign concept."
