As 2024 wrapped up, networks and streamers did their best to end the year with positive news. After a slow start to December, a flood of high-profile renewals came in: HBO made the easy decision to renew its sci-fi prequel Dune: Prophecy, Apple TV+ picked up new seasons of Vince Vaughn's detective series Bad Monkey and the sci-fi series Silo, Paramount+ asked for more of the new series The Agency and another term of Mayor of Kingstown, Netflix renewed Ted Danson's comedy A Man on the Inside, and Hulu ordered another round of the sexy drama Rivals. Our stockings were stuffed!
But it wasn't a happy holidays for all. Girls5eva, the excellent comedy from Meredith Scardino, was canceled by Netflix after three seasons. (Credit where credit is due: Netflix saved the show with an extra season after Peacock canceled it first.) Over on FX, Jeff Bridges' thriller The Old Man was sent to a home, never to be seen again.
